aussies in uk
This community doesn't seem terribly active, but hey...|
My name's Zac, I'm 17 and been living in North West London for nearly 4 years now.
Any other Aussies here that live in London? I know there's quite a few, most of them live around the Willesden Green area.
Well, just wanted to say hi :)
I'm Anne, I'm living in Enfield, North London. I've been over here for 8 years and counting.
So how do you come to be over here? I was made redundant from my job in advertising, had a bit of a payout and decided to travel. Never dreamed I'd stay for long, but here I am married to an Italian (who's a British citizen too) and here for a while at least.
Oh yeah, and I'm *gulp* 35.
Wow, you've been here for a while for such an unexpected trip. I know where Enfield is, never been there myself though.
So did you find your husband here?
Do you miss Aus? Ever plan to go back?
I definitely plan to go back, but no actual firm plans. The thought of never living in Australia again makes me desperately sad, but so does the thought of not being with my husband. Stuck!
I met my husband at a residential writing workshop, he's a poet and freelance writer. We became friends and so the story goes. We've been together for 7 years and just got married 3 months ago.
I miss it all the time, but I like my life here too. I have some good friends, although not as many as 'back home' and a job I love and my husband's family have always been very welcoming. I miss my 5 year old nephew most of all.
I go back for holidays every year or couple of years. I miss the weather.
Do you miss it? Plan to go back?
Wow, so you've really made a life for yourself here!
Yes I do miss it, I haven't been back once and it's not likely since neither I or my family have that much money, so to back would make it a permanent move, but we can't afford the tickets to go back so it's a catch 22 really.
Then again, I've set up roots here too and so to leave now would really be quite disruptive. That's the downside.
